House in Grants Pass

JUNE 27, 2011
We are back at Carl Washburne SP, after a week long visit to Grants Pass.  The renters at our house moved out, and we had several repairs and much cleaning to do, before the next renters move in.

We had to tear out the old carpet in the 480 SF family room, before the installers could come install new carpet.

We have had a mysterious leak in the chimney for a long time, that would seep water through the brick of the fireplace.  Jeff is convinced he found where water is getting in, and sealed it good.  So we tore the ceiling out around the fireplace in both the dining room and the living room, and replaced the drywall.  Unfortunately, we are not professionals, so the job is done, but its not perty.

We worked from morning to night every day, but took time out a few evenings for brief get-togethers with family and friends.
My sister was down from Portland, so She with our Mom and Dad brought over KFC and other homemade fixins for an evening picnic... giving us a much needed break!

Then before their visit was over, we had a surprise visit from some of Jeff's club brothers.

We had the help of our good friend, Ginny, for two of the days... and what a help she was.  We were so busy with repairs, she took over the cleaning.
Of course, in the evening we took a break for eating and relaxing.

We stayed at our house, sleeping on our air mattress... it was great!

So there is a little post about our House in Grants Pass trip.  We have more outside work to do at the house, but that will be later in the summer.

Happenings on the Oregon Coast

We dont get a chance to blog very often while we are here, but here is a brief Show and Tell presentation:

We got to doggy-sit Dizzy for 3 days, while her family went away.  He reminds me so much of my pug, Rocky... really made me happy and sad at the same time.

We had SO much fun together!

We have both of our Harley's now, so on one of our days off last week, we rode up Hwy 101.

Another day off today, and the sun was shining (in between clouds).  We rode to Waldport, then East along the Alsea River, to Salmonberry Campground.  We are scheduled to camphost there for 2 1/2 months, starting August 1st, so we wanted to see what to expect.
We're really glad we did, because we are now re-considering that assignment.  We may look for something else.  It's not what we were expecting, nor what we are wanting, for a few reasons.  So we will start looking tonight for other opportunities.

Its a short post, I know, but I am sitting in the truck over in the day use area, and Im sure Jeff is wondering if all is ok... so to keep him from feeling like he had better come check on me, I better sign off... till next time!

Carl Washburne SP - Relief Hosts!

We are traveling to Grants Pass, OR today... so I have a connection good enough to do a blog post!
We own a house in Grants Pass, and our tenants will be moving out in a couple weeks, so we need to look it over and meet potential new tenants.  We will bring back Jeff's Harley with us, so we can both ride... if we ever see Sunshine for more than a few hours!

Some views of the park and our site:

Beautiful Oregon Coast

Here we are doing our job!

Jeff even found an unopen bottle of beer in the sand!  But he didnt dare to drink it.  He wasnt that desperate.

Last week, we rode into Florence... beautiful ride.  We even treated ourselves to lunch by the water.

There are some great hiking trails in the park...

This creature washed ashore the other day... Doesnt it look like an elephant?

Ok... I cant end the post with that picture in your mind.
Here's a better one to end with!

If you're in the area... Come See Us!

We even have a Guest Room!

SO much to Show and Tell! PART 2 MORE FAMILY

Here goes a continuation of last nights post.

Our next company was Jeff's cousin and girlfriend.  They arrived the day that Brandee and Rick and the girls left.  We had just enough time to clean the cabins before they arrived.  They too stayed in a cabin for the 2 nights they were here.   Again, it was cold and rainy much of their visit.  We didn't get alot of pictures of their visit... don't know why.

We spent time inside chatting and playing cards.  They taught us a card game that was new to us... GOLF.  Chuck suggested playing for money, so we agreed, and we took their money every game!

We did get out on Monday for a drive and a bit of a hike to to view Steens Pillar.  Very interesting.

We would probably have a lot more to tell if the weather had been better and we had done more.  The day they left was beautiful!

Our next weekend, which was the 23rd & 24th, my parents came for a visit.  They live in Medford, so that was quite a drive for only 2 nights, but we did enjoy our time together.
They also stayed in a cabin.  The weather wasnt great, but it wasnt horrible either.

We barbequed up at their cabin, their first evening, and built a fire, but after a couple marshmallows, we were done... too cold!  Its too bad, because its such a beautiful view.

Mmmm... burnt marshmallow

The cabins are a ways from our place, so Jeff always transported my dad in the "gater"... while my mom and I walked.

Back at our place, we enjoyed Meals and Movies and I taught Mom our new card game of Golf.  But she wouldn't play me for money!!  She would have left ahead if she did... cuz she won!

We shared stories that brought laughter.  This one I'm still not sure what the end of the story is because my Dad couldn't get more than a couple words out between the teary laughter!

It was a beautiful calm sunny day on Tuesday when they left.  We enjoyed it together until early afternoon, then they headed home.  So glad they came.

After they left, we took advantage of the sunshine, and hopped on the Harley for a ride into Redmond.  It was a great ride, and Im glad we did it, because Wednesday it was cold and rainy again.

While in Redmond, we visited the grave of Jeff's first wife and 2 children who were killed in a car accident years ago.  Its been almost 17 years now, but understandably, it is still a very sad memory.

----------------

Hey... check this out.  A few weeks ago, Jeff built this for our sewer hose.  It works great, and we can adjust it for the different situations.  We saw this setup at the site of another camp host, so we took pictures and bought the supplies.  So simple, and it comes apart for transport.

Meet Beth and Skip Brewer.  Our very enjoyable neighbor camp hosts.

Check out the Day Use beach area.  The water in the lake rose to flood stage.

Those poor Picnic Tables... we wanted to rescue them.  But this sign says "Saving Picnic Tables is prohibited"!!

Thats all for now.  Thanks for reading.

We're gearing up for a busy holiday weekend, and our last weekend here.  We will leave next Tuesday for Carl Washburne SP on the Oregon Coast.

Maybe next post I will have some pictures of Jeffs fish catch.  But so far, no matter what he tries, he cannot catch a fish.  But we're eating plenty that we're given!
