City of Rocks SP

Tuesday afternoon we pulled out of Rockhound SP and drove the 41 miles North to City of Rocks SP.

Our friends, Allyn and Phyllis, had a week reservation at City of Rocks starting Tuesday.  They were there to greet us.

Actually, I think what I heard Allyn holler when we drove in was something like, "Oh No... there goes the neighborhood"!

We got together at our place Tuesday night, and had a great time playing games and laughing ALOT!
Ya thats me falling off the sofa and trying not to pee my pants!

Oh ya, forgot to tell you about our site.  City of Rocks SP has only 10 electric sites, 2 are reservable, 2 are camp hosts, so there are only 6 sites available on first come basis.  We didnt want to give up our beautiful site with electric at Rockhound, if we didnt know we had a site at City of Rocks.  So we called ahead to check on it.  They thought that someone was leaving one of the sites, but they hadnt yet, and they arent suppose to save sites.  After four phone calls, maybe they knew I was serious about wanting an electric site.  They told me on the fourth phone call that the people in E-5 had moved out and they had placed a "occupied" sign on the site... just for us!

Yesterday (Wednesday) we did some walking, hiking and bicycle riding around the park.  This cluster of rocks is amazing.... its almost like a little City of Rocks!!

Last night we enjoyed a fire over at their site, complete with roasted marshmallows!

Today we are off to Silver City for the day.  Infact we are on our way now.  Im finishing up the post in the back seat.  We may be leaving tomorrow, heading back toward Oregon... but we will see.
Oh ya... our television mysteriously quit working between Rockhound and City of Rocks.  We will have it repaired when we get to Grants Pass.  Fortunately it is under warranty.

Check back soon to see Silver City.

Fire and Funnies

Not much to say... but I like to do a post every 3-4 days.  We continue to have Sunny days with temps in the 80's, but the wind today was a little stronger than the last couple days.  Night before last we enjoyed a good fire.

We've been waiting to see who our new neighbors will be for awhile, as the site we had to move from was reserved for an extended time... but I guess they must have cancelled, because there has been a different camper in there every night.  We keep thinking they must be them, then they leave the next morning... Today, a couple moved in and left in a couple hours!  then another couple moved in this evening.

Now for the "funnies".  We picked up a local paper yesterday, and this morning Jeff was reading it.  There were some funnies that made us laugh.  With the stress of the economy... sometimes we just have to laugh!

THE ECONOMY IS SO BAD...

... I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.

... I ordered a burger at McDonalds, and the guy behind the counter asked "can you afford fries with that?

... If the bank returns your check marked "insufficient funds" you have to call them and ask if they mean you or them.

... Hot Wheels and Matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM.

... Parents in Beverly Hills and Malibu are firing their nannies and learning their childrens names.

... A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico.

... Motel 6 won't leave the light on anymore.

Sometimes ya just gotta laugh!

Slight Move.... Slight Transformation... and a Plan!

Our site was only available through the 13th, and we like this place too much to leave after only 9 nights here.  So when our neighbors left yesterday, we moved into their site!
Pulling Out...

Backing In...

This was the shortest moving day ever!!

This site is a non-reservable site, so we can stay here up to 21 days!
We also like this site because the shelter has four poles, which allows us to put up our screens.

The screen makes such a difference in the wind.  It was entertaining putting it up in the wind.  Not sure if it was more entertaining to us or the onlookers.

That was the Slight Move part of this post,
Now for the Slight Transformation...

Jeff had grown a beard, which he has never done for this long

But today, as we sat in the sun, we decided it would be a good time to shave, before he tanned anymore around it.
Ooo...Eee, My husband is handsome!  I liked the beard, but I like the skin more.

Some days, Jeff has more motivation than I do, and Thursday was one of those days.  As he went for a difficult bicycle ride, I reclined in the sunshine.

I did get out of my chair long enough to get a picture when he got back...

Good job Honey!

Now for the PLAN part of the post...
We made the decision to stay here until the 23rd, then go to City of Rocks SP for a week while our friends, Phyllis and Allen are there... then we will head back to Oregon from there, arriving at our destination in Oregon around April 7th.  That will give us 3 weeks in Grants Pass before we leave for our Camp Host jobs.
1500 miles and $600 later, we will arrive in Grants Pass, Oregon.  The $600 is fuel, of course.  Yikes!

Calm Sunny Day after the Wind Storm

Wednesday is the day Im referring to, although today is another beautiful sunny day.
Tuesday was windy, but not the wind dust storm we had on Monday.
Where did the mountains go?

Nasty Nasty Wind Storm... but it was very warm.   We know that because we had to turn the Air Conditioner on.  Everyone seemed to be held up inside.

The wind became so strong, our shelter was swaying.  So Jeff ventured outside long enough to move the truck beside the shelter and strap it down.

Thank you Jeffrey

Wednesday we were back to the beautiful calm sunny days we are here for.  We went for a long walk, and late afternoon Duane and Louise came over for games, chat, snacks, and a fire after dark.  Silly me... I didnt think to take a picture until it was dark!

We had a great time, and Jeff and I learned a new way to play Mexican Train... the Escapee way.  Of course, Louise also got to learn a new way... the Right way! (or at least the Bright way) LOL
Actually, we really enjoyed this new way to play.  We will teach family and friends this new way and see what they think.

This weekend (Thur-Sun) is the Rockhound Roundup at the Deming Fairgrounds.  We plan to go probably tomorrow.  It is a Gem and Mineral show and Duane and Louise are a part of it with the club they belong to.  They showed us some of their collection.  They have a Toyhauler but their Toy is not a motorcycle, its a shop for all his rock and wood projects.  These are two very talented and busy people.

So thats it for now.  All of you be careful out there, and ENJOY LIFE!

Whoo HOO! We're Somebody!

That's how we're feeling today...  thanks to our followers and fellow bloggers comments.   It's encouraging to know that someone out there is actually reading our blog.  And the interaction through your comments helps us to feel a part of the blog world... especially fellow Full-time RVers!  It's so exciting to hear about your journeys and experiences, and follow along with you as you follow along with us.  So...  THANK YOU!

We even get to meet a fellow RV blogger couple!  Duane and Louise are here in Deming and we seem to share some same interests (besides the full-timin thing)... AND we found out this morning that they are good friends with Paul and Marsha that we met in Holbrook, AZ last year.

It has seemed that we just miss others at various places.  A while back I wanted to holler "Wait Up!" So many of you fellow Full-Timers were at places that we are going to be at, but not yet.  We spent time boondocking out of Borrego Springs last year, and enjoyed revisiting via the blogs of Kelly and Al who stayed very near where we set up last year, and Rene' and Jeanette who toured the area on their bike, just as we did last year when we had one of our bikes with us.  They encouraged us into our decision to get a Swivelwheel carrier for our bike so we can again take it with us.  Thanks to Donna aka Froggi and Stu for introducing us to them so we could get first hand experience with the Swivelwheel.  These lucky two travel with both their bikes!

There are many more of you, whose blogs I enjoy and whose comments I greatly appreciate... but if I took the time here to mention all of you I wouldnt get anything done today!

I enjoy ALL of our fellow Full-Timers blogs, so if you arent yet following our blog, please do so we can find out about you and follow your blog!

Hopefully we can meet up with many of you later this year or next year.  Isnt this life great?  (except for the rise in fuel cost)

Rockhound SP - Deming, NM

We left Leasburg Dam SP mid-afternoon, and drove 91 miles South West to Rockhound SP, south of Deming, NM.

We have a 9 day reservation, and we're so happy with our site.
I think we have the best site here!
Our lot at the top of the campground

Out our door

This is the view out our back window!

Our Desert Sunset tonight

We had a short visit with Elaine (and Biscuit) before leaving today.

Isn't Biscuit Sweet?  I think we need a doggy.
Rockhound SP is a place for rockhounds I guess... and that we are.  They allow each person to take 15 pounds of rock!  We got here late, so we havent explored the area to see where all these rocks are, but we are looking forward to it tomorrow!

Oh ya... when we took the exit into Deming we passed a gas station and the price of diesel was $4.39!!  What the heck!  I guess we wont be going any great distances in the near future... except to Oregon for camp host jobs this Summer.

Back at Leasburg Dam SP

We left Alamogordo this morning with our destination being Pancho Villa SP on the Mexico border, South of Deming, NM.  We have a reservation at Rockhound SP (south of Deming) for March 5-13.  We dont like making reservations, but they only have a few electric sites, so we took what they had available.  So since we couldnt get in until the 5th, we had 3 nights to spend somewhere else, and thought we would try out Pancho Villa since they have lots of electric sites, and even though we wanted to visit Las Cruces again, we didnt think they would have an electric site that we could fit in.

But as we entered Las Cruces, we felt like we had come home and we had to stop.  Well... God has gone before us and prepared our way once again!  Here we are in an awesome site with electricity at Leasburg Dam SP!   Elaine and her poodle "Biscuit" are still here, so we were anxious to see them again.  She was one of the camphosts the first time we were here.  Leasburg was our first place to stay in New Mexico... this was last May.  It was fun to share with Elaine all the places we had been since we saw her last.

Aahh... relaxing at home again - same home, new yard.

After settled, Jeff went out to where we found wood our first trip... still there!

Fire again... awesome night.

It may be hard to leave such a great site after only 3 nights, but we have a reservation waiting for us.   We will go into Las Cruces tomorrow.  We have several places we want to go.

Tuesday, March 2

Tuesday morning was "one of those mornings" for me.  I had planned to make us Spinach and Asparagus Frittata for breakfast, but first I had to clean up the coffee that I dumped on the carpet.  Very irritated at this point, but determined to make the frittata.  So I sauteed the asparagus and spinach and made a good looking frittata.  But then attempting to transfer it to a plate, I dropped it on the floor.  I just wanted to cry at this point.  Fortunately, I had cut the frittata in half, so half was still in the pan.  I gave this half to Jeff for his breakfast and I had cottage cheese and grapefruit.

The rest of the day we spent getting things put away, cleaning up and getting the clean laundry put away...  and getting a little sun.

Monday, March 1

Monday we went into town and did our 3 weeks worth of laundry.  One thing about this RV life is the laundry... you never know what you will get.  One load of our dark clothes all came out "stone wash".  Some of it looks good... some not so much.

Our other outing for the day was the space museum and iMax theater with the Hubble movie.  I'm not much for movies in theaters and Jeff keeps reminding me that we have never been to a theater together, so hopefully this counts so Im off the hook!

Those were some photos we took from inside the iMax theater.

Abrupt stop, but gotta get to bed.  (we're trying to get on a better schedule)
